Manager of the Technology Transfer Office at the Netherlands Cancer Institute

Koen Verhoef is Manager of the Technology Transfer Office of the NKI-AvL since 1 May 2009. In this role, he is also responsible for the coordination of the valorisation activities of the Cancer Genomics Centre. Prior to this, he worked as a business developer/IP specialist within the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) of VU University (VU) and VU University medical centre (VUmc) in Amsterdam.
Koen studied Biology at VU University in Amsterdam (1993) and went on to earn a PhD in Medicine from the University of Amsterdam (1999). During his post-doctoral scientific career he received two EMBO fellowships which allowed him to perform research at the University of Heidelberg (1998-1999) and at Oxford University (2000-2001). In 2001 he started as a Technology Transfer manager with MRC Technology, the commercialisation company associated with the Medical Research Council in London, UK. In 2003 he moved back to the Netherlands where he founded the Technology Transfer Office at VUmc and subsequently at VU University.
Koen Verhoef published >20 papers in peer reviewed scientific journals and is named as an inventor on a bundle of related patents/patent applications. is an active member of the Licensing Executive Society (LES Benelux) and the European Association for Science and Technology Professionals (ASTP).
Koen Verhoef was one of the speakers of Postdoc Retreat 2010 in Kapellerput - Heeze. Here he gave the 88 participants an introduction on Technology Transfer, together with Farid El Oualid, a postdoc in the process of setting up a spin-off company.
