The date and preliminary programme of next PCDI Postdoc Retreat has been announced, the registration will open soon.

A question to those of you who previously attended a Postdoc Retreat, how did you like it? What did you like best? What was the take home message to you? Would you recommend the Postdoc Retreat to your fellow postdocs/PhD students and for what particular reason?

Here's another reason to go to the postdoc retreat: A variety of speakers will talk about their career steps. Keynote speaker Prof. Jonathan Yewdell, a hotshot in science, is the author of "How to succeed in science" part I and II in Nat Rev Mol Cell Biol. He is also an excellent speaker and on this years postdoc retreat, he will share and explain his ideas on how you can make it within academic science. If you doubt whether you should stay in academia or not, his tips and trics will probably help you out!

If you are ready to think outside the box, want to take your scientific career into your own hands and are eager to learn more about yourself as a scientist, your transferable skills and the opportunities that you have as a highly qualified academic, the PCDI postdoc retreat is the place to be!

The PCDI postdoc retreat is very valuable for postdocs and last-year PhD students that are at the breaking point of deciding to stay in academia or having/wanting to leave the realms of university. Either way, during this retreat you will learn that performing real science is not only limited to the academic world. You'll find that there are a lot more opportunities out there without having to lose the scientist within you. And let's be honest: it's about 'being a scientist' and 'working as a scientist' that you love, right? Where to perform your science (in or outside academia) is just the package that has to suit you.

Postdos retreat is absolutely something I would recommend to other postdocs, but also to PhD students who are in the last phase of their studies. I already knew that I wanted to continue to work in the academia; however, thanks to the postdoc retreat my view on the opportunities broadened and I learned what the best ways were to reach my goals and increase my chances within my future career. Moreover, many highly recognized scientists were present at the retreat as well and it's always useful to hear their experience and to get to know them. Definitely put this date in your agenda!!

I would definitely recommend the postdoc-retreat to other postdocs!
In addition to the fun I had at the retreat, I also learned a lot; both about myself as well as about all the different job options you have as a postdoc.
The take home message for me was that you can still be a real scientist even if you leave the university to work at a company. I didn’t know that there were so many companies where you can do real science.
