Barry van der Strate

Project manager at PRA International

Barry van der Strate studied medical biology at the University of Groningen. After finalization of his PhD thesis he was was a post-doc for 7 years at the University Medical Center Groningen at 2 different departments. He joined PRA in 2008 as a Project Manager /Study Director at the Bioanalytical Lab, PRA intl. Assen - Large Molecule Group.

The clinical division of PRA international performs clinical studies in healthy volunteers and patients. Both concentrations of these drugs –pharmacokinetics- and results of drug treatment (i.e. effects, effector mechanisms: pharmacodynamics) are assessed in samples obtained from these clinical studies. In addition, samples of clinical studies performed on other sites (globally) are analyzed. Samples are analyzed using LC-MS/ HPLC, or using ligand binding assays (immunoassays). In his job as project manager/ study director, he is involved in the analyses of large molecules (peptides/proteins) by immunoassays such as RIA, ELISA, and FACS according to GLP principles. To this end, commercial immuno assays may be used. However, it may also be necessary to develop, implement and validate new immunoassays.

Barry van der Strate participated roundtable-discussions at multiple PCDI Postdoc Retreats, including the one of 2010.
