Earlier I told you that I decided to stay in science. When I received my PhD I set myself a new goal: get a grant. In my last blog I didn’t completely tell you the truth. I have to confess that in April last year I wrote an application for an STW Grant. I could not apply for it myself (I obviously don’t have a permanent position). So I asked my supervisor and my promotor to back me up in this application and they did.
It took a long time, but last week I got the news that we got the funding. That gave me a huge sense of satisfaction, to be able to persuade other people to invest money in an idea of my own. But shortly after that I got a bit nervous. It was an idea in my head until now it becomes reality, I actually can do the research. This is the dawn of a new era: managing your own project.
Hi Sabina, the main issue with application for funding is that you need a permanent position for most funding. As a postdoc I do not have such a position. Therefore, I just asked my promotor to be the applicant of the proposal I had written. This proposal I did not have to present in person. However, I also applied for the Veni grant and reached the final 22 of 92 proposals. This proposal I did present in person. There is no final decision, so I have to keep sweating for a little while.
Hi Tim, did you apply for this grant yourself?? In that case, maybe you could post some tips and suggestions? How many applications were there? And how many rounds? Did you have to present your proposal in person as well? Did you apply for more grants, like Veni or Rubicon??
